Smiths Medical CADD-Solis VIP System Now Available in Europe

December 19, 2011

Earlier this week, Smiths Medical, a leading medical device manufacturer expanded the availability of the CADD-Solis VIP to four European markets; France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The new CADD-Solis VIP (variable infusion profile) system is an ambulatory infusion pump system designed for homecare pain management.

The system includes a Smart infusion pump, medication safety software and medication cassette reservoirs attached to the pump. Initially introduced in 2008, the original model of the CADD-Solis VIP was designed for a hospital pain management system. Currently, the CADD-Solis VIP system is specifically designed for safe and easy-use homecare pain management.

According to Tommy Johns, Smith Medical’s VP for Global Product Management, “Smart infusion devices have been widely adopted in hospitals as a means to help reduce the risk of medication delivery errors and improve efficiencies. Until now, however, Smart infusion systems have not been designed for home patients or the professionals who care for them. The new CADD – Solis VIP system provides enhanced safety features and convenience for health care providers who want to provide optimal care for their infusion patients in either the home or hospital.”

The new CADD-Solis VIP system features five infusion delivery modes: Continuous, Intermittent, Taper, PCA and Step, to accommodate both adult and pediatric patients for various therapies. These therapies include Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), chemotherapy, pain management, hydration and IVIG (Intravenous Immunoglobulin). The infusion system allows user-friendly medication management for health care professionals delivering better and safer patient care.

The new CADD-Solis VIP system is equipped with a reliable infusion pump and accurate medication delivery to protect home patients from medication errors. Already available in the Middle East, the UK, Canada, Australia, and now in some parts of Europe, Smiths Medical anticipates the new CADD system will pass FDA review and be available in the US soon.
