The National Quality Forum (NQF) cited the efforts of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Foundation’s Healthcare Technology Safety Institute (HTSI) in its latest Health IT report. The NQF, a nonprofit organization that aims to improve healthcare quality, included the institute’s work on the safety and challenges of infusion systems.

The report mentioned two of HTSI’s research papers in its Safety Innovations series which addressed proper management and operation of infusion pump systems. Learn more about these papers here: www.aiv-inc.com/iv-pump-news/aami-institute-releases-papers-on-infusion-pump-safety.html.

Released last August, NQF drafted a report for the US Department of Health and Human Services discussing how the latest technology in healthcare could improve patient care and safety, particularly through infusion systems. The article entitled “Critical Paths for Creating Data Platforms: Patient Safety” is part of NQF’s Critical Paths Project that aims to “understand the current state of electronic data readiness for quality measurement and current gaps… [that] would allow for more robust infusion pump safety measurement and improvement”.

Organizations and institutions such as NQF and HTSI continue to pursue quality patient care and safety in all healthcare facilities. To achieve improved patient care, it is critical that healthcare facilities have a broad understanding of IV medication delivery and properly-serviced infusion pump systems. Hospitals, clinics and other facilities need to ensure their equipment is in optimal condition through maintenance and repair.

AIV offers repair services and replacement parts for most leading infusion pumps. Browse through AIV’s infusion pump parts and services at www.aiv-inc.com/iv-infusion-pump-replacement-parts.html.
