This week, the leading global authority in medical device market research, iData Research has released a report on the U.S infusion therapy device market. According to iData Research, in the past year alone, the market for infusion pumps has exceeded $5 billion with CareFusion and Baxter leading the pack.

Despite the nationwide product recall of infusion pumps, the report states that in the year 2017, the market is predicted to reach over $6.6 billion. The rise in sales can be attributed to hospitals and private clinics that have resorted to purchasing cheaper infusion pumps because of budget limits. Infusion pumps are no longer just used in the medical setting, but in both alternate and home-care settings as well.

The nationwide product recall of infusion pumps last year just intensified the competition among top infusion pump manufacturers such as Baxter, Hospira and CareFusion. This incident has not only provided a window of opportunity for these top companies to improve their products, but for new companies and new technologies in the infusion pump market to emerge as well.
