iData Research, an international market research and consulting group recently conducted a study about the rise of Infusion Pump demands in the United States. U.S. Hospitals reported that there is an increase in elderly and obese patients being admitted. Hospital visits from this type of demographic means there will be an increased need for Infusion Pumps and Intravenous sets.

The Intravenous (IV) set market is affected by the size and age of the overall patient population. Last year, U.S. population grew to 314 million. The population today is mostly comprised of older people due to people living longer and a reduced fertility rate in younger generations. IV pumps are used in place of oral therapy since medications may render ineffective when it passed through the digestive tract or when a patient experiences difficulty in swallowing.

“More patients are being treated with multiple medications that cannot be mixed together which is increasing the use of secondary IV sets and causing an overall increase in the market value. Our research indicates that over three quarters of all the primary sets used will require at least one secondary IV set and that this trend is expected to increase to nearly 85%” iData Research CEO Dr. Kamran Zamanian reported.

With the continued demand for advanced infusion pump systems, it is critical for these medical devices to provide safe and efficient medication delivery. To achieve these goals, healthcare facilities should only use high-quality and properly-serviced infusion pumps.
