Evopump Revolutionizes Delivery of Injectable Drugs

November 21, 2014

Clinical engineering technology start-up innovator Cam Med LLC devised a revolutionary pump that delivers one or more medications in simultaneous and subcutaneous manners. The market’s pioneering bandage-like pump called Evopump was designed using a soft, thin, and flexible material to enable precise, convenient, and continuous delivery of injectable drugs.

Laurence Alberts collaborated with Yanzhe Qin, a Harvard School of Engineering and Apllied Sciences fellow and Zhifei Ge, a Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Department of Mechanical Engineering Ph.D candidate in co-founding Cam Med to develop the innovative device for real-time and controlled infusion of highly concentrated formulations of medications. The team began engineering the Evopump in May 2013, and later on discovered a multitude of benefits it could offer towards optimizing infusion systems for drug delivery to patients with diabetes, Parkinson’s, osteoporosis, and other diseases.

Unlike other existing pumps, the Evopump was engineered with a wearable design that utilizes an electrochemical actuator for transferring small to large doses of medication from the pump through the body. The pump also offers a huge potential in supporting emergency medical services that require multiple daily injections to out-of-hospital patients.

Following a series of strategic planning, Cam Med introduced the groundbreaking Evopump in the recent MassChallenge, the world’s largest annual global startup competition, and was awarded with $50,000 cash. The Evopump is slated to undergo years of infusion pump device testing and clinical trials prior to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.

The Evopump wearable IV pump breakthrough technology provides yet another safe and efficient solution for the high demand and standard for optimization in the infusion pump market. AIV offers high quality, clinical-grade IV pump parts, accessories, and repair services that meet safety requirements for the delivery of optimal patient care.
