Baxter Finalizes Sigma International AcquisitionApril 27, 2012
Baxter International, a leading global medical device manufacturer, has bought the remaining 60 percent of shares from SIGMA International General Medical Apparatus, LLC. The acquisition reportedly cost Baxter approximately $90 million. Three years ago, Baxter sealed an agreement to hold just 40 percent of equity stake in SIGMA while exclusively distributing the company’s infusion pumps globally.
With the full purchase of SIGMA, Baxter now holds the company’s development pipeline including an advanced infusion pump system with multiple technologies. The pipeline includes a recently submitted syringe infusion pump for US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. Part of SIGMA’s latest and advanced infusion pump system is the large volume pump, Spectrum® that offers uncomplicated data transfer and an easy-to-access drug library with wireless accessibility.
Robert M. Davis, president of Baxter’s Medical Products, announced that the acquisition of SIGMA has strengthened the expansion and development of Baxter’s fluid system portfolio, to continually provide high-quality drug infusion technology for healthcare facilities.
