New World Angels (NWA) led a network of accredited investor groups across the U.S. in co-investing a $2.1 million worth of investments in OBMedical Company for the development and commercialization of their LaborView™ maternal-fetal monitoring system.

Biomed Monthly – Jult 2014The proceeds on this funding will be used to support the filing of 510(k) clearance or Premarket Notification (PMN) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the LaborView™ sensor system once preliminary testing for safety, mechanical functions, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), summative usability, and industrial design are perfected.

OBMedical is a premier developer of maternal-fetal monitoring medical devices and other breakthroughs dedicated to advancing the overall healthcare of women and the wellbeing of babies. The LaborView™ electronic maternal-fetal monitoring sensor system is designed to track and gauge maternal labor contractions as well as fetal heart rates.

Once the device receives FDA 510(k) clearance, the LaborView technology will be offered to virtually every healthcare provider as a modern alternative to conventional external fetal monitoring sensors that aims to deliver a more dependable, more comfortable, and more economical obstetric care monitoring for greater patient satisfaction.

OBMedical President Weaver Gaines optimistically shared that “the clinical performance trials, conducted at the University of Florida Health/Shands Hospital and the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies in Orlando, were completed with highly satisfactory results. The 510(k) submission is scheduled for the third quarter of 2014.”

OBMedical‘s LaborView™ system is also expected to work with all major brands of monitors in the U.S. and employ neural networks, signal processing, information theory, data fusion, and artificial intelligence.

Scott Dresden, MD, FACOG, a member of NWA and corporate board member of OBMedical, also added, "LaborView, with its numerous and significant improvements over existing devices, brings maternal-fetal monitoring into the 21st Century.” With this clinical advancement, clinicians and healthcare personnel alike could look forward to a major leap in the care of laboring patients.

Worthy investments aimed at further advancing the fetal monitoring systems and redefining the new standard of care for laboring mothers and their babies could bring a huge difference to healthcare facilities in delivering quality maternal-fetal care and safety.
