The Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) announced earlier this week that they will use the AirStrip OB in their Arizona, California and Nevada hospitals. The fifth largest healthcare system in the country reported that they will make this breakthrough technology available for CHW-affiliated physicians.

The AirStrip OB is a mobile app where physicians can monitor fetal activities including maternal contraction pattern, vital signs and fetal heartbeat remotely through their smartphones. This technology allows physicians to closely observe their patients virtually especially when they are unable to physically check up on their patients.

The AirStrip OB gathers information directly from fetal monitors and the hospital’s labor library system.. With this innovation, physicians can have full access to patients’ data with a login and password security system programmed into the app. Once accessed, the comprehensive medical data of the patient will be shown including basic information, fetal gestation, patient gravity and parity, latest cervical examination result, current attending nurse and physician. The AirStrip OB can accumulate data of up to four hours through selected mobile devices including iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Android.

The Mercy Medical Center in Redding and Sequioa Hospital in Redwood City pioneered the use of the AirStrip OB app. This technology will soon be available in 32 birthing centers of the 40 hospitals in the CHW system. John D. Hoff, MD of the CWH system reports that the implementation of the AirStrip OB technology in hospitals will allow doctors to easily identify complications ahead of time. The AirStrip OB will also allow physicians to communicate with nurses and caregivers easily for faster and comprehensive updates.

This app can also be used by nurses to update the doctors of the types of equipment including fetal monitors and fetal monitor transducers needed for certain procedures like ultrasound sonograms to check on the status of the baby. AIV offers replacement fetal transducers and a quality-driven fetal transducer repair program. Check the full line at http://www.aiv-inc.com/fetal-monitor-transducers.html.
