AWHONN Announces Five Recipients of the 1Q Fetal Heart Monitoring Instructor Recognition Program Award

October 24, 2014

The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) recognized five outstanding perinatal clinicians and granted them the Fetal Heart Monitoring Instructor Recognition Award for the first quarter of 2014. This recognition acknowledges the significant contribution of fetal heart rate monitoring educators in supporting AWHONN’s mission to advance the quality of healthcare for women and their newborns.

As a leader in fetal heart monitoring education, AWHONN educates approximately 15,000 clinicians worldwide in conducting accurate data measurements and interpretations on fetal heart rate and uterine monitoring. This annual recognition and incentives program is tailored to strengthen the nursing profession in obstetrics and neonatal care through promoting advocacies, delivering research-based resources, and initiating education to nurses and other health care professionals.

AWHONN's CEO Lynn Erdman, MN, RN, FAAN, felt so honored to award this recognition to select candidates who have proven their exemplary talent, field expertise, and unwavering dedication to the Fetal Monitoring Program and to perinatal education. “We're grateful to have such a talented team of instructors and excited to recognize these outstanding individuals for their impact on communities across America,” she added.

Erdman awarded the five recipients: Rebecca Chavez, BSN, RN; Amy E. Davis, MSN, RNC; Melissa Gabaldon, BSN, RNC-OB, C-EFM; Jeannette M. Hoopfer, AD, RNC; and Deborah Davis, MS, RNC-OB, C-EFM. Aside from being AWHONN instructors of basic, intermediate and advanced fetal monitoring courses, all five women are also healthcare practitioners, particularly as perinatal in-service specialist, labor and delivery nurse, clinical nurse specialist, permanent charge nurse, and clinical practice leader in various medical institutions in the U.S.

To make a huge difference in advancing the safe delivery of superior perinatal and maternal care like the advocacies of AWHONN, healthcare providers must stay on the cutting-edge of fetal heart rate monitoring technologies and its procedures.
