Infusion pump technology provider, Hospira, has recently launched the first ever patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) infusion pump with electronic medical record (EMR) interoperability. Known as the LifeCare PCA 7.0, this next-generation infusion system is auto-programmable and can streamline infusion data for improved safety and efficiency in pain management medication administration. The PCA pump also includes bar code identification for prefilled and pharmacy-filled drug vials.

On May 31, 2016, a baby suffering from severe microcephaly was born in New Jersey to a mother infected with Zika. Previous tests done on the mother revealed that the baby girl also had abnormalities including brain calcification, bowel problems, and restricted growth. To save the infant’s life, doctors at Hackensack University Medical Center determined that delivery by caesarean section was necessary.
