UHS Launches Alaris® Smart PumpsOctober 31, 2011
October 31, 2011
Earlier this week, Universal Health Services (UHS) hospitals and health care systems began introducing to their hospitals, the new Alaris® System, a smart IV pump that utilizes the latest in infusion technology.
According to Larry Tremel, director of Pharmacy and project leader, UHS Wilson will begin deploying this high-tech infusion pump on November 1, followed by UHS Binghamton General on November 2. The Alaris® System features top-of-the-line protection when using infusion pumps, safeguarding both nurses and patients. Tremel reports that their nurses have undergone an hour of online training accompanied by a three-hour hands-on session, to make sure that they have sufficient knowledge on using the new equipment.
The new Alaris® System is also equipped with “guardrails”, a built-in software to prevent clinicians from giving wrong doses to patients. A soft guard rail alerts the user and confirms if the user still wants to give the dose. A hard guard rail alert stops the user from proceeding with the administration completely.
