MD Expo Fall Draws Near

MD Publishing’s bi-annual event, MD Expo will be held from October 3-5 in at the Green Valley Ranch in Las Vegas. The three-day event will feature the latest products and technology from today’s leading medical device designers and manufacturers.

Various professionals and clinicians who manage, purchase and support medical equipment, parts and service are expected to attend the show, making it a perfect venue for business and social networking as well as educational opportunities.

The event is supported by a number of organizations in the biomedical field including: The California Medical Instrumentation Association (CMIA), The Colorado Association of Biomedical Equipment Technicians (CABMET), The Intermountain Clinical Instrumentation Society (ICIS) and The Arizona Medical Instrumentation Association (AZMIA).

The Fall Expo will also showcase a line-up of educational courses for its attendees and will be closed with an Irish Pub Night.

AAMI and FDA to Hold Interoperability Summit

The Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be holding a summit on October 2 – 3 in Herndon, Virginia. The summit will “address the challenges associated with medical device interoperability”, inviting experts and professionals from the IT and medical industries including researchers and clinicians in the fields.

Through group discussion, the two organizations hope to devise solutions and regulations concerning medical interoperability by the end of the event. AAMI and FDA also hope to list standard operation procedures which healthcare institutions can already use without waiting for new research and design change.

CMIA Calls for Attendance on Next Board Meeting

The California Medical Instrumentation Association (CMIA) is calling for its board members to attend the next meeting on October 6. The meeting will be held at the Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A WebEx session will also be available for members who will not be able to physically attend the meeting.

NMBIO to Host Program for Biotech Companies

The New Mexico Biotechnology and Biomedical Association (NMBIO) is currently assembling a panel to address issues and challenges on incubator and accelerator resources in the Central New Mexico region for October. NMBIO’s program will help entrepreneurs on decision-making and utilization of available resources to improve their businesses.

HBA Annual Symposium Offers Educational Sessions

The Heartland Biomedical Association (HBA) is inviting participants to its upcoming annual symposium that features a number of educational sessions. The two-day event will be held on November 1 – 2, 2012 at the Siemens Theater in Omaha, Nebraska.

NCBA Offers Learning Opportunities with Recent Conference

On September 12, the North Central Biomedical Association (NCBA) held its 19th Annual Conference in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The conference offered a number of educational activities for the participants that focused on medical devices and healthcare work management.

The three-day event featured classes including “The Role of the FDA in Medical Device Recalls”, “Intro to PACS displays and DICOM/TG18” and “Hybrid Operating Room Design Considerations”. The conference was concluded by key note speaker Tim Johnson who presented “Legal Implications of Work Order Management”.

The 19th NCBA Conference also offered its attendees with a casino night social event and karaoke night.

NCBA Holds Election for Board of Directors

The North Carolina Biomedical Association (NCBA) held elections on September 13 during the Business Luncheon of its 34th Annual Symposium. The election was held to fill the positions of six board members whose terms ended. Following the election, the first board meeting took place next day.

BMETS Season Kick Off

The Baltimore Medical Engineers and Technicians Society (BMETS) started off its season with a meeting held on September 12 at Snyder’s Willow Grove. The biomedical association welcomed new members in the event.

NESCE Holds Fall Meeting

The New England Society of Clinical Engineering (NESCE) hosted its fall meeting at Leo Ristorante in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 18. The meeting featured a presentation entitled “Proposed CMS Requirement to Follow OEM Guidelines for Medical Equipment Maintenance”.

GBS Addresses Issues with Anesthetic Devices

The Gateway Biomedical Society (GBS) recently held its association meeting at Kirkwood, Missouri last September 20. The meeting featured a presentation that discussed challenges and issues with anesthetic vaporizers. The presentation covered the history, principles, problems, safety hazards and preventive maintenance of this equipment.

OCEA Launches New Website

The Ohio Clinical Engineering Association (OCEA) launched its new website, featuring a survey form for site visitors and members alike which could determine the direction of OCEA for the next year. OCEA’s new site also provides a clean interface for easy browsing. It showcases a line-up of upcoming events which promote biomedical and clinical engineering to the healthcare industry.

WSBA Hosts Education Seminar

The Washington State Biomedical Association (WSBA) hosted its 2012 Education Seminar that featured a brief discussion and short courses on ultrasound, electrosurgical generators and endoscopic video equipment. The sessions were presented by Sonosite, Covidien and Stryker.

The event took place in the North Seattle Community College on September 22.
