NFPA: SPRPTs Are Safe for Patient Care Vicinities

The National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Healthcare Interpretations Task Force (HITF) voted 7-0 at their June meeting to allow the use of Special Purpose Relocatable Power Taps (SPRPTs) in patient care areas of healthcare facilities. The minutes of the meeting can be found here (beginning on page 4).

Biomed Monthly – Jult 2014

The Task Force stated that SPRPTs that are approved to UL’s 1363A standards are permitted to be used for medical equipment in the patient care vicinity provided they meet the 10.2.3.6 section of the NFPA-99 Healthcare Facilities Code (2012 Edition).

More information on the usage and acceptance of SPRPTs in patient care areas can be found on AIV’s dedicated SPRPT information page. Click here to access the above information.
