AAMI Launches HTM Career Development Guide

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation’s (AAMI) Technology Management Council (TMC) recently drafted a comprehensive career guide in Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) to help professionals "create meaningful career goals and chart a path to advancement" considering the current career opportunities in the field.

Biomed Monthly – Jult 2014

The TMC drafted the AAMI Career Development Guide to clarify various vagaries in the HTM career field. The comprehensive career guide offers guidance in meaningful goal setting, professional growth charting, personal growth, preparation for other opportunities, and management direct report development.

Community Health Network clinical engineering director and AAMI 2014 Conference co-moderator Karen Waninger added, “We wanted to help produce a tool that would allow HTM to map out a path for their own advancement based on their desires.”

The AAMI Career Development Guide features a wealth of resources including HTM career path graph, development ladder grids, and professional planning worksheets. These features are designed to show the growth and progression of skills in a current position and provide a detailed description of each position level in three typical job types – technical specialist, clinical engineer, and leadership.

The HTM career development guide currently has drafts underway tailored for up-and-coming HTM professionals training for leadership roles in the future. The forthcoming HTM leadership development guide will then be tailored to help healthcare organizations determine potential leaders among their HTM staff members and further hone their expertise and skills.
