BMES Training Program on Biomedical Innovations Timetabled this August

Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Coulter College is inviting all BME design teams to this year's stand-alone event to be held on August 14-17, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency in Coral Gables, FL. Coulter College, which is sponsored by the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation, is a student program that focuses on the translation of biomedical innovations to enhance quality patient care.

Biomed Monthly– April 2014This training program grants BME student participants the privilege to learn from senior design faculty members and clinical practitioners. Coulter College’s highly dynamic process is meant to give attendees an in-depth understanding of how the fast increasing number of biomedical innovations can address diverse clinical demands, while offering problem-solving tools and techniques that could lead to ground breaking solutions.

The three-day event is designed to provide a series of lecture presentations and collaborative projects. A BME student design faculty member associated with any university who teaches or previously taught senior design must submit team applications on our before April 14, 2014, as student submitted applications will not be reviewed. Selected participants will be entitled to a stipend for defraying travel costs, and Coulter Foundation will cover all meals and lodging.

ISACB 14th Biennial Meeting

The International Society for Applied Cardiovascular Biology (ISACB) invited practitioners to join the 14th Biennial Meeting on April 2-5, 2014 at the Tudor Arms Doubletree Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio. The conference aims to establish a research agenda that will break through barriers in understanding and translating cardiovascular medicine discoveries into therapeutic modalities to enhance the quality of patient care and its accessibility to the public. Participants will learn translation of basic research connected to regenerative therapies like stem cells, tissue interactions, and a host of advanced cardiovascular diagnostics technologies, among others.

Venture Capital and Patent Law: Practical Strategies for Patenting an Innovation Webinar

This Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) webinar is focused on the practical basics of securing patents as well as strategic considerations linked to managing patent protection. Biomedical engineering students and professionals, or other parties interested in the safeguarding patent technology and commercializing a biotechnology or medical device are welcome to join the webinar on April 15, 2014 at 3:00 PM EST- 4:00 PM EST.

Corrective and Preventive Action Requirements and Industry Practice

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) will be holding a 2-day intensive course program that will encompass the elements of corrective and preventive action (CAPA) system in accordance to the requirements by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning management of existing and potential product and system non-conformities. Quality Assurance and regulatory affairs professionals and personnel are invited to join on April 7-8, 2014 at The Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington, Virginia.

Developing and Validating Software for the Medical Device Industry

From April 7-9, 2014, AAMI will be hosting a three-day interactive workshop that covers the comprehensive elementsof designing software validation plans in accordance to software certifications and regulatory requirements. This will enable attendees to participate in exercise-driven activities that showcase various case studies on test designs, traceability analysis, requirements drafting, and other relevant software validation practices.

Safety Assurance Case for Medical Devices

This intensive 3-day program to be held on April 8-10, 2014 at Arlington, Virginia provides a comprehensive coverage of the safety assurance case elements. Interactive exercises will allow attendees to apply their skills in a practical setting and review safety assurance cases that tackle the issue of safety claims validity made for medical devices.

Process Validation Requirements & Industry Practice Workshop

A two and a half day course, this all-inclusive workshop demonstrated the apt practical tools in developing successful master plans for process validation requirements according to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Quality System Regulation and standard Process Validation Guidance from the Global Harmonization Task Force. Industry experts also shared real-life anecdotes and case studies,while participantsengaged in various exercises on process validation.The Process Validation Requirements & Industry Practice Workshop was held last March 31 at The Westin Alexandria in Virginia.
